I didn't say it's not okay to support the war, I was expressing anger at people who don't seem to think about the situation before deciding they support it. Ironically enough, I find myself forced to support some kind of continuing military presence in Iraq because, to quote another comic strip (Deep Cover by Tim Eagan), the U.S. military is kind of like a giant axe embedded in Iraq's chest -- which we can't remove, because that axe is now the only thing preventing Iraq from bleeding to death. (The Funny Times (http://www.funnytimes.com): Like the Daily Show, it's better than being informed.)

In my calmer frames of mind, I try to emulate Voltaire's willingness (http://www.quotationspage.com/quote/331.html) to defend to the death (well, almost) any American's right to say or believe things I disagree with. I even do my best to see things from opposing viewpoints myself, from time to time. For instance, I can well imagine that if there seems to be any course of action where soldiers are doing their jobs that's better than the one where they aren't, they might well rally behind the former course no matter how much the day-to-day experience of it sucks.

But due to the above-mentioned psychological problems, I'm not strong enough to maintain this attitude full-time. Which doesn't mean it's ever a good idea to post stereotyped crap like the above to my LiveJournal; as I told Mr. Dunbar, next time I feel this way I'll do my best not to make a fool of myself in public.
