John Kerry is a liberal flip-flopper. That's why I'm voting for him.

A liberal is someone who understands that people need a living wage and affordable healthcare and education. A liberal recognizes that to achieve these things, we often have to bring in the government, because the government is accountable to the people's votes, whereas the private sector is only accountable to consumers' checkbooks. That's a system where one dollar equals one vote and the rich have almost all the say.

A liberal knows that government can and should be made more efficient, but not in ways that harm workers or the environment we all depend on. A liberal sees that the economy isn't everything, that we need citizens and communities, not just consumers and corporations, and that we must protect the natural world for future generations. A liberal understands that we must move away from fossil fuels as quickly as we can, both because of the health and climate risks of fossil-fuel pollution and because nations with tyrannical governments built on oil are the main sources of terrorism. (Update, 1/26/05: the latter point is becoming clear to some neocons as well.)

A liberal knows that people shouldn't be made to live in fear of terrorists or any other enemy. A liberal recognizes that international cooperation, not world domination, is the way to solve global problems like terrorism.

A flip-flopper is simply someone who is willing to change his/her opinion when new information arises, rather than clinging to false beliefs, like the idea that Saddam Hussein was such a threat to America that we had to invade his country against the will of the international community, or that the plans for the postwar situation were perfect and there was nothing we should have done differently. A flip-flopper admits that he/she has made mistakes, because you can't solve a problem if you refuse to admit that it exists.

John Kerry is a liberal flip-flopper. That's why you should vote for him.
